About the 3LB

The inspiration for our name three_little_birds originally comes from Bob Marley. One fine day we were smoking some kind herb, listening to reggae. We ended up reading about Marley’s inspiration for his famous song “Three Little Birds”, and we discovered that the song’s imagery came from a trio of mourning doves eating herb seeds discarded on Bob Marley’s doorstep.
Much (if not most) Jamaican herb was grown seeded in those days. Rasta prophet and musician Marley would sit outside his home smoking herb with his friends and fellow musicians. They usually ended up throwing the seeds right there on the ground, leaving a bounty for hungry birds. One serendipitous morning, a trio of mourning doves was singing and frolicking while eating the discarded cannabis seeds, and the story is that they inspired Marley to write the lyrics of his now famous song.
The 3LB’s are a Canadian based Cannabis collective. We are a family of medicinal herb users who collaborate to acquire, breed, and then share medically effective cannabis strains. We come from similar yet diverse backgrounds, and somehow fate has brought us together where the combination of our collective abilities, knowledge, skill, and experience allows our combined efforts to go far beyond what any of us might accomplish as individuals.
The founder of the 3LB is an award winning artist, a talented musician, and a long term activist in the battle for medical marijuana. She founder comes from a rural agricultural background where her family was a part of a closed religious community where seed saving wasn’t a hobby or a novelty or even a luxury, it was a part of their life. Seed-saving and plant breeding was their tradition, their lifestyle, and essential to their survival, and even today seed saving is as much an ingrained part of their individual and collective makeup as is their common eye color.
Tweedy bird was once invited to serve on the Board of Directors for the Compassion Club in Vancouver (she shyly declined). Her own (Conservative) Member of Parliament once grudgingly admitted that she is the best example he has ever met of an ethical and law abiding individual who became a purely medicinal Cannabis user out of desperation and personal necessity. Cannabis has restored her life and health, so in return she is dedicated to helping others learn and experience the healing powers of the sacred herb Cannabis.
She was an early member of the Seed Swap Club (SSC) where many friendships and personal contacts were made with a great number of cannabis breeders from around the globe. Those personal contacts provide many of the genetic resources for the 3LB’s ongoing breeding programs. While with the SSC, she was trusted to act as the “middle man” who processed, inventoried, packaged and re-mailed cannabis germplasm to breeders all around the globe.
Tweedy bird also worked as an administrator of the Med-Seed-Project and was a founder of CompassionKonnection. Both of those were among the first online sites dedicated to medical users of Cannabis. Medicinal cannabis seeds, as well as strain and growing information, were all distributed for free.
Her compassionate devotion to helping others to this day continues to guide the 3LB’s in our efforts. Our friendly flock continues to be dedicated primarily to helping fellow medicinal users across the globe. Tweedy is a model of compassion who has literally been admired and loved by many different individuals for the real difference she made in their lives.
Woodstock is an award winning amateur livestock breeder, also a prize winning photographer, believe it or not an award winning craftsperson, not to mention an prize winning gardener . This bird is an individual who brings another lifetime of real life agricultural experience to our cooperative efforts.
She also grew up in agrarian community on a small “sustenance farm” where raising crops and livestock were also a part of daily existence. Woodstock has a keen eye for detail, that “eagle eye” has been trained to the point that this bird has been trusted to work as a judge in regional agricultural fairs.
This second member of the 3LB served an “internship” with a “old style” professional herb grower who was known by most folks as the “Surfin’ Yogi”. The “Surfin’ Yogi” was known for traveling with the Grateful Dead and growing herb when he wasn’t on the road. For a number of years “surfin’ yogi” produced herbs that he or his friends sold in San Francisco’s Haight-Asbury district.
Our second bird spent several months growing and smoking and sharing knowledge with “surfing yogi”, an experience which has given this bird a very unique perspective on cannabis cultivation going back to some of the earlier days of indoor cannabis cultivation in the America’s.
This perspective literally provides us with a great wealth of knowledge and wisdom from some of the very folks who pioneered indoor cannabis cultivation. The personal experience this “2nd bird” brings to the table in the combination of general agricultural and cannabis specific knowledge is almost beyond measure.
Her trained judge’s eye and experience judging a number of various agricultural products is perhaps unique in the cannabis community, and it proves to be invaluable time and time again in our ongoing breeding projects. Finally this bird’s two decades of individual experience as a cannabis connoisseur and traveler of psychedelic realms qualifies them to speak knowledgeably about the relative qualities of many different psychedelic delicacies including the finest cannabis this world has seen.
Foggy smoked his first herb more than 30 years ago, and he’s smoked herb (or Hashish) at least once per day (and usually more) ever since. The “third bird” planted their first cannabis seed into soil about 25 years ago, ad has kept on growing ever since.
Foggy also comes from a rural agricultural background and his family literally has indoor “heirloom” houseplants more than 40 years old that have been sustained and grown and moved from location to location across the continent. We’re not talking a 40 year old cannabis cut, but, that houseplant example hopefully gives some idea of the “green thumb” tradition that this bird was raised in and around.
Foggy is a “science prodigy”, with an amazing aptitude for absorbing information from the biological, agricultural, and breeding sciences. He provides the strong scientific background that people see behind the many growing and breeding efforts of the 3LB. Perhaps the best description of the role this bird serves within the cooperative is to attach the title - “cooperative agricultural and breeding engineer”.
The “3rd bird” is professional published author who’s love of cannabis led them away from academic pursuits and into a very different world. After a variety of migrations, bird #3 ultimately landed with our flock, bringing a combination of long term cannabis experience, an advanced scientific aptitude as well as the contribution of yet another lifetime of growing experience. Foggy truly brings the bird’s nest together, with an ability to absorb and relate both the experience and science together, his knowledge gives our breeding programs and organic gardening techniques a strong basis in science.
In addition to our ongoing breeding efforts we also strive to spread knowledge and provide lasting references and resources for the entire cannabis community. We welcome questions about our ongoing growing and breeding endeavors, and we will do our best to honestly detail our breeding efforts to the fullest extent possible within the necessary constraints brought about by cannabis prohibition.
We feel a genuine love for our plants and our breeding efforts are motivated by personal medicinal need. Every member of our collective is a medicinal user. So, come fly friendly skies with the 3LB, where our mission is all about helping people heal themselves, and preserving the sacred plant that brought us all together.
