Lebanon And Bekaa in Biblical History

Lebanon was also predominantly important in the context of history as it was recorded in the cannon of the Bible books, or as westerners call it The Holy Bible.

From the beginning books, Lebanon is central in location. It was a landmark that is supported by the many familiar references to it. One knew where he was by knowing how far or near he was in proximity from Lebanon.

It was known to be a valley of fertile and lush and productive growth. It supplied the people with pomegranates, honey and grapes, thus wine, and also figs, nuts, olives and grain. One of the most famous commodities were cedar trees, which were the prize for construction for exquisite palaces and temples. Those who had not had the luxury to have traveled there were certain to hear of it.

And it came to pass, when all the kings which were on this side Jordan, in the hills, and in the valleys, and in all the coasts of the great sea over against LEBANON, the Hittite, and the Amorite, the Canaanite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite, heard thereof;

JOS 11:17

JOS 13:5

In the Sexy book Song of Solomon the lover equates many of attributes of his love to the splendor of Lebanon. She also returns the praise likewise. Anyone who has never read this scintillating book have no idea how intimate and wonderful the mystery of a man and a maid are portrayed. The first three are spoken by him, and we’ll let you figure out what he means by her “fountain”. She speaks to him in the last two quotes.

SO 4:8

Come with me from LEBANON, my spouse, with me from LEBANON: look from the top of Amana, from the top of Shenir and Hermon, from the lions’ dens, from the mountains of the leopards.

SO 4:11

Thy lips, O my spouse, drop as the honeycomb: honey and milk are under thy tongue; and the smell of thy garments is like the smell of LEBANON.

SO 4:15

A fountain of gardens, a well of living waters, and streams from LEBANON.

SO 5:15

His legs are as pillars of marble, set upon sockets of fine gold: his countenance is as LEBANON, excellent as the cedars.

SO 7:4

Thy neck is as a tower of ivory; thine eyes like the fishpools in Heshbon, by the gate of Bathrabbim: thy nose is as the tower of LEBANON which looketh toward Damascus.

Lebanon is also spoken of in fervent hopes and dreams as a place of rest, of tranquility, and peace. A final destiny of Utopia.
