Sleep, Pain, And Symptom Management

How to Achieve Responsible and Effective Sleep, Pain, and Symptom Management In Cannabis

Cookies, Brownies and other cooked food.

As so many times in the past, we continue to get asked again and again for specific recipes to prepare some dish, which may contain the addition of cannabis. It is very simple really- any dish, which contains fats or oils, are great to add the herb to.

The reason is simple. Fats readily absorb THC and other cannibinoids. They are subjected to heat, which in turn activate the elements making them assimilate in our bodies releasing the desired effects.

The methodology is simple in that it is preferable to maintain heat at about 325 F for duration of 20 minutes and as much as an hour for large and heavy dishes. For example brownies in an 8 x 9 or so pan are generally about 1,1/2 inches in thickness require the normal baking time of 30 min is correct and a metered dosage will be very potent, but only when you have become competent in knowing how much herb it takes you the individual to adequately get the results you are looking for. This can be found only by applying wisdom within experimentation.

There are a few good ratios to launch your personal experiments from. Our personal goals are such that we use food to nourish and try to be careful to watch our sugar, salt, fats, and starch use. Therefore we do not “spice up” our food on a lark or just to get high. Not that there is anything wrong with getting high when it is appropriate to. We honestly believe there is a time and place for most everything. If the intent is to have a celebration, and getting high is part then by all means do so. But please be careful and responsible- especially when you offer “spiked” dishes to others. The same way you’d expect to know whether the punch has a little extra “punch” in it so you’d want to know if you would need that ride home or not.

Ingested (eating) Cannabis is very different from smoking it. While in smoking you expect to feel the effects within moments, it can take anywhere from 20 minutes to over an hour to feel the effects of what you had. If you keep eating, these effects will increment directly. It is possible in ingesting Cannabis to overdose and while it has never killed anyone that we know of, it could lead to delusions and paranoia in some and make you very uncomfortable and perhaps nauseous. If ever you get into a “too-much” situation- your best move is to sleep it off. So be aware, and be carefully intelligent.

So then, the ratio that works for us is about a once of prime bud that has been cleaned of stems, and broken up and allowed to become brittle dry. This is then ground into a very fine powder. You can do this in a number of ways, and again the method is up to you. One note of caution is powdered herb is extremely light and will float, so keep it contained until it fully settles or else tame it down. We have used coffee grinders, and the methods works well. In fact, if you were to want to sprinkle the herb into a lasagna layers for example, it would be preferable this way.

We use cookies or brownies most often to deliver our medicine. We are not getting younger and so portion and calorie counts are a fact of life. Therefore we use a blender with about a cup of white sugar (consult your recipe for amounts) already in it. Add the herb as quickly as it becomes incorporated. Too much too fast may jam and create a ball- not what we want. It will also ball if not dry enough. On the other hand if correctly dry it will fly right out of the jar the moment you take off the lid. DON’T take off that lid. Take out that small insert in the lid. And now, having turned off the machine and pour in liquefied fat or oil. We use half butter, half olive oil. And incorporate.
If you have room you can now add eggs and flavorings. By now all the powder will be tamed and you can turn out the slurry into a bowl and add the remaining ingredients. Finish and bake the required time- watch carefully against scorching, as this degrades the potency and quality of the finished product. We have endured such trials and they are unending and not fun. We guess that is why it is called trial and error- we make errors and suffer the trials!
Because we do not use our medicine as food- we tend to make very powerfully strong, potent recipes that deliver a quantity of medicine in a small size as possible. Remember, this is medicine but looks like any other food. It is imperative to protect people from accidentally consuming your medicine. And, while situations may be laughable to some, to the inexperienced who accidentally or otherwise consumes our medicine, may cause panic enough to endanger your ability to continue to make your own medicine. When one defies the law even as an act of civil disobedience, extra caution is required at all times. Loose lips sink ships- so we do not even recommend sharing.
If you expect that a friend would likely benefit, the best recourse is to present the concept saying, “Have you ever considered Cannabis? If you like I could help you investigate, etc. . .etc. . then seek most relevant information. Let them decide for themselves and as a rule do not repeatedly bring up the subject, as this may bring suspicion and unnecessary situations. Not everything a person does needs to be shared- any more than the exact methods one uses after bathroom duties need to explicate.

We will continue to explore creative ways to access your medicine in all the wonderful options.
