Using EJ Microblast

Micronutrients are not needed by a plant’s metabolism in the same kind of quantity as Nitrogen, Phosphorous, Potassium, or Calcium. Despite the fact that they are essential for proper plant health and growth, they can also become toxic if added in too large a quantity. Establishing a proper micronutrient balance is absolutely necessary to produce great grows. It’s probably no surprise that we believe Earth Juice Microblast to be an excellent and balanced source of all necessary micronutrients. It can be used in combination with their Grow and Bloom formulas, and we’ve heard many successful reports of growers using it to treat micronutrient deficiencies that other fertilizers didn’t address. Here’s Earth Juice’s own description of Microblast:

MICROBLAST: A proprietary liquid micronutrient formula to be used to prevent and correct micronutrient deficiencies. Naturally buffered for assured plant absorption. May be watered in or used as a foliage spray.

Microblast’s ingredient list doesn’t feature an entire lineup of tasty organic goodies, instead it is primarily made up of mined minerals.

kelp meal
magnesium sulfate
borax
cobalt sulfate
ferrous sulfate
manganese sulfate
sodium molybdate
zinc sulfate

For the technical minded, we’ve got some stats. Microblast tests out to provide the following nutrient percentages: Magnesium (Mg) .05%, Boron (B) .02%, Cobalt (Co) .0005%, Iron (Fe) .10%, Manganese (Mn) .05%, Molybdenum (Mo) .0005%, Zinc (Zn) .05%

It our understanding that Microblast is an absolute essential when using the Earth Juice array of products for hydro-organics. This is especially true when using totally “soil-less” mediums, but is less so for folks using an organically based “soil-less” medium featuring peat moss. Folks using composted and re-mixed soil that’s had nice amendments like rock powders, kelp, alfalfa meal, worm castings, and other organic goodies, may not have any need for it at all.

Our experience is that EJ Microblast is a great all around supplement that resolves almost any potential micronutrient issue likely to arise. Our application rates for EJ Microblast never exceed 1 teaspoon per gallon, so we only use it sparingly. And, we only use it once every few weeks, perhaps a total of two or three times during a plant’s normal life. We usually apply Earth Juice Microblast at times when we believe our plants are their most likely to experience micronutrient problems.

Good examples of times we like to use this product are at the peak of vegetative growth, and as plants are finishing the transition to full flowering. We usually give our plants an extra shot of Potassium at the same time (using Meta-K). We’ll cover all of that in more detail in the next installment of the 3LB Earth Juice Guide.
